Decide to make a change
The development of drug addiction is not a sign of a character defect or weakness, and is more than willful to overcome the problem. Illegal or misuse of some prescription drugs can cause brain changes, which can lead to powerful craving and compulsion to use what seems like an impossible goal of abstinence. But recovery is never out of reach, no matter how hopeless your situation is or how many times you have tried and failed before. With the right treatment and support, change is possible.

For many people struggling with addiction, the hardest step towards recovery is the very first one: recognizing that you have a problem and deciding to make a change. If you are ready to begin recovery, or if you have what it takes to leave, it is normal to feel uncertain about it. If you are addicted to prescription medication, you may be concerned about how you are searching for an alternative method to treat the medical condition. It is okay to feel torn. To keep sobriety, there are several things to change, including:
• how to deal with stress
Who do you allow in your life
• what do you do in your free time
• how do you think about yourself
• Prescription and over-the-counter medicines
It is also normal to feel conflicted about giving the medicine of your choice, when you know that it is causing problems in your life. Recovery requires time, motivation and support, but making a commitment to change allows you to overcome your addiction and take control of your life.
